A timeless film genre that never loses its charm is the ‘romantic drama’. Now, Prime Video is set to breathe new life into this beloved genre with its upcoming release, The Idea of You, promising a fresh take on the popular rom-com-drama formula. Starring popular British actor Nicholas Galitzine and Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway, the highly anticipated love story is adapted by director Michael Showalter from Robinne Lee’s eponymous novel.

The Idea of You revolves around Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who sparks an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. With a critically acclaimed premiere at SXSW, the film is amongst the most anticipated releases of this Summer. Ahead of its premiere on May 2, Nicholas Galitzine addresses the age-gap trope in the film.

“We’re used to seeing, when there’s an age gap, it’s usually the man who’s older,” notes Nicholas Galitzine. He adds, “I think it’s refreshing to see it this way and very much a commentary on where we are and where we’re moving as a society; how we perceive love and the nuclear relationship, and that chemistry transcends age. People who are in two different places in their lives can actually have an incredible amount of commonality and be simpatico.”

Notably, both actors hit it off with each other during their initial meeting, when Hathaway offered to read with Galitzine at his audition. “You can always tell from an audition if someone can act, but you never know how someone is going to be when they’re off-camera or when they’re making the film,” remarks Hathaway. She continues, “I cannot tell you what a delight it was to work with Nick. He brought such warmth and sincerity and a sense of fun to every day on the set.”

Galitzine returns the compliment, underscoring noting how much he learned from Hathaway, in particular, “how she likes to approach and build character while trying to keep it fresh. Because you don’t want to do something that feels overly rehearsed. Anne is always searching for the truth in her character, which is why we’re all here—to tell an honest story that people can connect with.”

Directed by Michael Showalter, The Idea of You is jointly produced by Cathy Schulman, Gabrielle Union, Anne Hathaway, Robinne Lee, Eric Hayes, Michael Showalter, and Jordana Mollick. Besides Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, the romantic drama stars Ella Rubin, Annie Mumolo, Reid Scott, Perry Mattfeld, Jordan Aaron Hall, Mathilda Gianopoulos, Raymond Cham Jr., Jaiden Anthony, Viktor White, and Dakota Adan in key roles. The Amazon Original movie is slated to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on May 2.
