Chandigarh to Host ‘SMILE Walkathon’ on Gandhi Jayanti, Promoting Health and Social Responsibility

Chandigarh, September 21, 2026: Chandigarh will host the ‘SMILE Walkathon 2026’ at the Capitol Complex on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti. Organised with the message “One Walk • One Cause • One Better Society,” the walkathon aims to promote a healthy lifestyle while raising awareness about a drug-free society and the dignity, care and well-being of needy senior citizens.

Organised by SMILE – Society for Music, Innovative Literature & Entertainment, Chandigarh, the walkathon will feature 3 km and 5 km categories. Children, youth, families, senior citizens, professionals and representatives of various institutions are expected to participate. The event will begin at 6 am.

Focus on Heart Health

With the support of Fortis Hospital, Mohali, a free heart and health check-up camp will be organised during the event. The programme will also feature yoga, Zumba, a special strength and stamina competition, karaoke and musical performances, along with refreshments and hydration facilities.

Every Registration to Support Senior Citizens

According to organiser Dr. I.S. Kang, the key objective of the initiative is to establish a ‘SMILE Home of Dignity’ for needy and vulnerable senior citizens. The proposed home aims to provide them with a life of dignity, companionship, basic care and medical support. Every registration for the walkathon is being viewed as a contribution towards this larger social cause.

Manish Tewari to Be Chief Guest, Syed Kirmani Special Guest

Member of Parliament Manish Tewari will attend the event as the Chief Guest, while Padma Shri Syed Kirmani, former wicketkeeper of the Indian cricket team and a member of the historic 1983 World Cup-winning squad, will be the Special Guest.

Every registered participant will receive a T-shirt and participation certificate. The organisers have appealed to people across Chandigarh and the Tricity to join the initiative this Gandhi Jayanti and take a collective step towards a healthy heart, a drug-free society and dignity for senior citizens.
