Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University Organises Orientation Programme for Freshers
The Centre for Human Rights and Duties (CHRD), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised the first day of its Orientation Week for Freshers 2026–27 on Monday. The programme, aimed at familiarising newly admitted students with the academic environment of the Centre and encouraging them to engage meaningfully with the study and practice of human rights, will conclude on Sept 18.

Chandigarh, September 15, 2026: The Centre for Human Rights and Duties (CHRD), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised the first day of its Orientation Week for Freshers 2026–27 on Monday. The programme, aimed at familiarising newly admitted students with the academic environment of the Centre and encouraging them to engage meaningfully with the study and practice of human rights, will conclude on Sept 18.
The Day 1 programme commenced with an Orientation Brief on “Navigating Academics at CHRD: Pathways from Theory to Human Rights Practice”, delivered by Dr. Upneet Kaur Mangat, Chairperson, Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University. The session introduced students to the academic structure, learning opportunities and pathways through which theoretical understanding of human rights can be translated into practical engagement.
This was followed by a Special Lecture on “Holistic Development through Student Welfare Initiatives: Nurturing Wellbeing”. Prof. Namita Gupta, Dean Student Welfare (Women), Panjab University, addressed the freshers on the importance of student welfare and holistic development. She highlighted the significance of wellbeing, supportive institutional environments and active participation in student welfare initiatives for a fulfilling university experience.
The sessions provided an interactive platform for the new students to understand the academic and co-curricular opportunities available at the Centre and to reflect on their role as students of human rights and duties.
The programme also included an interactive session with faculty, staff, MA Semester III students and research scholars, enabling the freshers to interact with members of the Centre and gain insights into academic life, research, and the wider activities of CHRD.
The Orientation Week reflects the Centre’s commitment to creating an inclusive, engaging and intellectually stimulating environment for its students. The initiative seeks to facilitate a smooth transition of freshers into university life while fostering the values of knowledge, reflection and action for a just society.
