Central University of Punjab Rises to 77th Rank in NIRF 2025 (University Category)

Bathinda, September 4, 2025: The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CU Punjab), under the guidance of Hon’ble Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and the dynamic leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Tiwari, has achieved another significant milestone by securing the 77th rank in the “University Category” of the Ministry of Education’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025. With this accomplishment, CU Punjab proudly continues its legacy of being ranked among the Top 100 Universities of India for the seventh consecutive year.
This year, the university has also achieved remarkable progress by securing the 20th Rank in the Pharmacy Category and the 40th Rank in the Law Category, further strengthening its position as a hub of academic excellence and cutting-edge research. In the NIRF 2025 ‘Overall Category’, CU Punjab secured a position within the "Rank-band 100-150".
The NIRF 2025 results were released on Thursday by Hon’ble Union Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. CU Punjab demonstrated steady improvement in the University Category, with its score rising from 47.11 in NIRF 2024 to 49.53 in NIRF 2025, reflecting consistent growth in academic and research performance.
Over the past seven years, the university has maintained its standing in the top 100 universities with the following positions: 95th (2019), 87th (2020), 84th (2021), 81st (2022), 100th (2023), 83rd (2024), and now 77th (2025) — its best rank during this period.
The NIRF evaluates institutions on five key parameters: Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR); Research & Professional Practices (RPP); Graduation Outcomes (GO); Outreach & Inclusivity (OI); and Perception.
Expressing his delight, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari dedicated this achievement to the CU Punjab fraternity. He stated, “It is a moment of immense pride that our university has maintained its place among India’s top 100 universities for seven consecutive years, and this year, we have reached our highest rank yet. This success is the collective outcome of the hard work and commitment of our faculty, staff, students, research scholars, and all stakeholders.”
Prof. Tiwari lauded the exemplary contributions of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products and the Department of Pharmacology, whose dedicated efforts enabled CU Punjab to secure a place among the Top 30 Pharmacy Institutions in the country for the fourth consecutive year. He also commended the Department of Law for securing a position among the Top 40 Law Institutes of India.
Looking ahead, Prof. Tiwari reaffirmed the university’s commitment to further strengthening its performance across all NIRF parameters and urged the CU Punjab community to continue working with dedication and enthusiasm to place the university among the Top 50 Higher Educational Institutions in the coming years.
