Bathinda, September 7, 2023: The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, organized a one-day symposium titled "Understanding Immune Tolerance and Its Loss: From Bench to Clinical Implications."

At the beginning of the event, Dr. Baljinder Singh, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, extended a warm welcome to the speakers, faculty members, and students, emphasizing the importance of such gatherings in maintaining the momentum of teaching and learning activities. Subsequently, Dr. Manju Jain, the Event Coordinator, provided an overview of the symposium.

Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director of the Research and Development Cell, addressed the audience, emphasizing the need for collaborative research efforts between academic institutions and medical centers to develop projects that are tailored to the needs of the region and have tangible outcomes in the field of higher education in Punjab.

The symposium featured four lectures focused on the significance of immune tolerance and the consequences when tolerance mechanisms fail. Prof. Gitanjali, Head of the Department of Biochemistry at AIIMS, Bathinda, and Dr. Manju Jain from the Central University of Punjab delivered lectures covering the basic understanding of immune mechanisms that distinguish between self and non-self, along with the immunopathology of various autoimmune diseases.

Dr. Shivani Bansal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at AIIMS Bathinda, discussed various autoimmune skin diseases and highlighted the research gaps that need to be addressed for improved disease management and treatment.

The fourth lecture of the day was presented by Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Translational and Regenerative Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He elaborated on the significance of monitoring Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplants and its clinical implications for patient care.

Each lecture was followed by open sessions that facilitated meaningful interactions among students and faculty members.

Towards the conclusion of the program, Dr. Ravindresh Chhabra, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, expressed formal gratitude and delivered a vote of thanks to all participants.
