Central University of Punjab, Bathinda celebrates National Mathematics Day in grand style

On the occasion of National Mathematics Day, dedicated to honouring the 136th birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, witnessed a weeklong celebration of mathematics culminating in a spectacular event on December 22.

Bathinda, December 24, 2023: On the occasion of National Mathematics Day, dedicated to honouring the 136th birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, witnessed a weeklong celebration of mathematics culminating in a spectacular event on December 22.

 
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) and the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, orchestrated a series of competitive events and an insightful talk as part of the Aryabhatta Lecture Series.

 
The event was made possible under the dynamic leadership of the university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P Tiwari.
 

The Chief Guest for the occasion was none other than the renowned mathematician, Professor (Dr.) Vijay Gupta from Netaji Subhash University of Technology, Delhi. The Head of the Department, Dr. Deep Singh, presented a beautiful bouquet of flowers to Dr. Gupta, symbolizing the university's gratitude for his presence.

 
Dr. Gupta, in his address, shed light on the significance of mathematics in our daily lives. He delivered a talk on “Construction of New operators and Convergence Estimates”. He delved into topics like magic squares, number theory and provided valuable insights into the life and contributions of Ramanujan. The talk captivated the audience, showcasing the enduring relevance and beauty of mathematical concepts.

 
Various engaging activities based on theme “Contribution of Mathematics and Mathematicians in making Viksit Bharat @ 2047” were organized as part of the celebration, including a Speech competition, Poster-making competition, and a challenging Quiz on December 15, 2023.
 

Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academics, Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean School of Basic Sciences and Prof. B.P. Garg, CoE & Registrar (i/c) graced the event and appreciated the participants for their active involvement in various activities.
 

Adding to the vibrancy of the event, students and faculty from the School of Eminence, Bhucho Kalan, actively participated. Approximately 60-70 students from the school, along with faculty members, joined the celebration, enriching the event with their enthusiasm and talent.
 

Prof. Gauree Shanker, Dr. Sachin Kumar, Dr. Anoop Kumar and Dr. Anuj Kumar have co-ordinated the different activities held on NMD-23. Dr. Harmandeep Singh Kapoor, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Vijay Gupta, highlighting his significant contributions to the field of mathematics. The event concluded with a gracious vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Deep Singh, Head, Department of Mathematics and Statistics expressing heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gupta for his inspiring talk and to everyone present for contributing to the success of the celebration by their active participation. 
 

In total, the event saw the participation of around 150 individuals, including research scholars, students, and faculty members. The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, once again demonstrated its commitment in promoting the importance and joy of mathematics through this well-executed celebration.
