CBI raid on Pranoy Roy of NDTV attack on freedom of speech

Ludhiana, June 6, 2017: Several organizations and prominent citizens have condemned the CBI raid on Pranoy Roy of NDTV at the behest of government of India. This is an attack on the freedom of speech which is being curbed since the Modi government came in power. This case of CBI conducting raids at his complaint about a case of loan which has already been paid back is vindictive and malafide. The government owes an apology from the NDTV for the harassment caused. Such acts however will not dither the truthful people from speaking up against the Modi government’s intention to curb difference of opinion. Those issuing the statement include Dr Arun Mitra – Convener Social Thinker Forum, Adv. Naval Chhibber – Vice President & Adv. Paramjit Singh –Secretary Indian Association of Lawyers Punjab, D P Maur – General Secretary Joint Council of Trade Unions, Swaroop Singh – Member India Wide Parent Association, Ramesh Rattan, Gurnam Sidhu. Instead the government should raid the defaulters of bank loans to the tune of more than six lakh crores they said.
