Noida: On the occasion of International ‘Girls in ICT’ Day, the much awaited programme, ‘Girls Power Tech’, was held at Apeejay School, Noida on April 28, 2016. Apeejay Stya & Svran Group partnered in the event in association with Cisco. This initiative is a part of the United Nation's drive to inspire girls to pursue careers in Information & Communication Technology (ICT).
A brief overview of the programme included a welcome note, Cisco expert's session on Smart Cities and an invitation to apply for the Cisco IoT World Forum Young Women’s Innovation Challenge and interactive sessions on career possibilities in the ICT sector.
Further to a welcome address by Mr S.C. Tiwari, Principal of Apeejay School, Noida, an audio-visual film on Apeejay Stya University was screened. Cisco defined the event as a celebration of girl power or contribution of the female gender in the ICT sector. Scope of ICT careers for women were discussed in great depth including its various functional areas including Sales, Marketing, R&D, Operations, Finance, HR, etc., apart from core competencies in technology and innovations. Immense possibilities in the dynamic realm of Cloud Computing werealso explained to the highly interested girl students who asked several questions to clear their doubts during the interactive sessions.
Cisco has been participating in this annual global mentoring event since 2011, organised on the occasion of International Girls in ICT Day – celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year. Cisco has an enduring commitment to encouraging students of all backgrounds to build careers in ICT. Employees at Cisco offices worldwide spend the day with girls age 13 to 18, encouraging them to consider education and career paths in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.)
Apeejay School s – Noida, Sheikh Sarai, Saket, Pitampura, Faridabad (Sector 15) and girl students from Apeejay Stya University and Apeejay Institute of Design, Tughlaqabad participated in the event.
The ICT sector, undoubtedly, promises to offer lucrative career opportunities to girls. Such initiatives exhibit that women are potent catalysts for change in society, and Technology being an enabler that can support them in accomplishing extraordinary things.
