Mumbai (Anil Bedag): In an era when major film studios hesitate to touch politically bold subjects, indie filmmaker Param Gill has created a fearless satire that has sparked global attention. His film Bad President, released quietly with minimal promotion, has unexpectedly become an international conversation starter.
The film portrays a corrupt businessman who suddenly rises to the highest seat of power. Though humorous on the surface, the narrative mirrors real-world politics in unsettling ways. Audiences find themselves laughing at the absurdity while simultaneously questioning the realities it reflects. With sharp humor and unapologetic commentary, Bad President highlights how a single leader’s behavior can influence a nation’s ethics, mindset, and trajectory.
The film’s initial release struggled. It debuted during the final stretch of Donald Trump’s first term, a time when political polarization suppressed its visibility. With barely any promotion, the film went largely unnoticed. But years later, everything changed. As soon as Trump returned to office, Bad President resurfaced online and went viral without any new marketing push. Viewers rediscovered it, calling it “a film that predicted the future.”
Param Gill attributes this resurgence to the film’s honesty. Although it carries the tone of a Saturday Night Live–style comedy, its script is rooted in actual statements and real global events. “It wasn’t a film about politics,” Gill explains. “It was about how dangerous a wrong role model can be. Leaders across several countries were imitating the same behavior.”
Gill’s personal journey is equally fascinating. A dentist by profession, he treats patients while singing Bollywood songs, yet filmmaking has always been his true passion. Perhaps this unusual path gives him the confidence to create fearless narratives.
With Bad President 2 now in development, one thing is clear: audiences worldwide are ready to embrace bold, truth-speaking cinema.
