A youth in Assam's Golaghat district reportedly took his life after the police allegedly thrashed him badly while he was attending Bijoya Dashami celebrations.
Guwahati, October 25 (IANS) A youth in Assam's Golaghat district reportedly took his life after the police allegedly thrashed him badly while he was attending Bijoya Dashami celebrations.
The body of the youth, who has been identified as Ajoy Dutta, was found hanging from a tree near the Gelabil river in the district on Wednesday.
The victim reportedly posted a video on Facebook in which he claimed that the police brutally beat him after he attempted to stop a fight during Bijoya Dashami celebrations.
The incident allegedly took place on Tuesday in the Dergaon area of the district. The youth said in the video that the police thrashed him and dragged him inside a police car. After this, Ajoy announced live on Facebook that he is ending his life and will not be going back to his home.
Ajoy said that a police officer and the driver of the police vehicle beat him up without any fault of his. He also claimed that he was posting this video on Facebook so that people can see the real reason behind his drastic step.
The Superintendent of Police in Golaghat district, Rajen Singh, told IANS, “An inquiry has been initiated into the matter. Further details can not be revealed at this time."
