Ashwani Kumar quits as Nagaland governor

Kohima, June 25 (IANS) Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar Wednesday submitted his resignation but it was not immediately clear if the resignation has been accepted, an official here said.

He is the third UPA-appointed governor to quit after his counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh -- B.L. Joshi and Shekhar Datt, respectively -- tendered their resignation last week.

"He (Ashwani Kumar) has submitted his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee but there is no confirmation if his resignation has been accepted," a senior government official told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Ashwani Kumar, 62, a former Himachal Pradesh police chief who also worked with the elite Special Protection Group, was sworn-in as Nagaland governor March 21, 2013.
