“Extortion, murders, and daylight shootings have become routine — this is a warning bell for Punjab’s future,” said Pargat Singh.

Jalandhar | October 30, 2025: Padma Shri Pargat Singh, MLA and Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, has once again expressed grave concern over the alarming rise in daylight robberies, extortion, and shootings across Punjab, holding the AAP government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann squarely responsible for the state’s breakdown in law and order.

He said that what Punjab is witnessing today is a collapse of governance — fear now walks freely on Punjab’s streets, and people no longer trust the police or the government to protect them. The Chief Minister and his administration have failed to secure even the most basic right of every citizen — the right to safety. It is time, he said, to make Punjab both fear-free and AAP-free.

The former Education Minister said that Punjab has lost its sense of safety. Earlier, thefts took place under the cover of darkness, but now robberies and shootings happen in broad daylight. Gangsters are openly extorting money from businessmen, doctors, and shopkeepers, and those who refuse to pay are being targeted with violence and murder.

He cited several recent incidents across the state — doctors in Amritsar and Moga attacked for refusing extortion, traders in Abohar and Mansa shot dead, a rickshaw driver in Phagwara murdered in broad daylight, and an open firing in Batala that killed two people and injured several others. These are not isolated cases, he said, but the grim reality of Punjab under AAP rule.

Under this government, criminals no longer fear the law. Instead of acting firmly to restore order, the Chief Minister and his ministers are busy inaugurating transformers and toilets to gain publicity. Punjab is being governed through optics, not through action. Citizens, traders, and professionals feel abandoned, while the state’s economy is paying the price for insecurity.

Singh said that the law-and-order crisis is a direct consequence of administrative paralysis. If the Chief Minister had the will, he could have restored peace and order within weeks. But the government suffers from indecision, complacency, and a lack of resolve. Punjab does not need slogans; it needs leadership.

He said that before the situation deteriorates further, the government must act decisively to reclaim the streets, restore public confidence, and ensure safety for every citizen. “The fear that once protected Punjab from lawlessness has disappeared. Gangsters operate freely while the government hides behind press conferences and propaganda. It is time to reclaim Punjab — to make it fearless, just, and secure once again. The Congress Party stands ready to restore law and order and rebuild the people’s faith in governance,” said Pargat Singh.
