Chandigarh, June 15, 2022: The Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University is going to open its Annual Production Laal Lakeer written by Dinesh Nair. The Play is Designed and Directed by Acclaimed Actor Director Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Chairperson of the department. The worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar of will inaugurate the event . The Production of Play will be focused to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence and therefore will be held as a part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsava. Dr.Navdeep Kaur said "The great revolution that took place for the independence and the culmination of the freedom movement was the freedom that we got, but the beautiful feeling of freedom is related to the truth of the partition of the country. This division created tragedy.

The reason and the thought behind creating a play on this subject was that how many memories are still left related to this tragedy. Dr. Navdeep feels that it is important for the new generation to know about the history of the land . This play is a remembrance of the pain and suffering of the people of Punjab.

When asked about the process, the Director of the play Dr. Navdeep Kaur said, "When I thought that this year's Annual Production would be dedicated to celebrate the 75 years of our independence, I started working with the students in the department, simultaneously I had started discussions about the play with the playwright as this is a fresh script. The complete process from scripting to the performance took almost two months which is not sufficient when you have to work with forty students.”

Keeping in mind the academic calendar, the Director along with the students and her team worked very hard day and night to prepare this performance of a fresh script. The studio theatre has been converted into a village of undivided Punjab to give the feel of a bygone era. During the process, students have learnt both onstage and offstage work of this live performing art.
The shows will be from 16- 21June 2022 in the studio theatre. The show will be 7 pm onwards, everyday.
