Amity University organised Europe focussed Global Indians Symposium 

Panel Discussion on "How can Global Indians help Indian Universities become truly world-class universities and support Indian students to realize international dreams & become successful Entrepreneurs" 

Amity University, a leading Research and Innovation Driven University is actively engaged in providing global exposure to its students and researchers. With this vision, Amity started a unique series of Global Indians who have created niche in their field and are located at different parts of the world. First of the series was concentrated on Global Indians in Europe and a Panel discussion was organized on the theme “Global Indians: Towards World’s Growth Story”. 

Invited panellist and guest of honour in the event were Baroness Verma, Member Parliament, United Kingdom, Lord Rami Ranger, Member Parliament, UK, and Founder Sunmark Group, UK, Mr. Jim Bligh, Director, Corporate Affairs, TCS UK, Ms. Lakshmi Kaul, Head CII UK, Prof. Kamal Bhattacharya, Co-founder and CEO of Advancity, Ex-Professor MIT Sloan and Professor, IUBH Germany. 
Panelists were welcomed by Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University; Prof. (Dr.) Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity University; Dr. S. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation; Prof. Bhawna Kumar, Vice President, RBEF, Amity Education Group.

The event was also attended by hundreds of Professors, & students of various Amity University campuses were present at the online platform.  The event started with traditional Sarasvati Vandana and e-lamp lighting.

While welcoming the Panelists, Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University said that India is at that point of history that it is making leaders of world. World Class Entrepreneurs, Parliamentarians, Academicians, Researchers engaged globally are from India. Future of our country is truly going to be great. Dr. Chauhan added that growth of India depends on how Indian Diaspora are supporting industry, universities, politics etc. NRIs are greatest ambassadors of India in their respective countries. Dr. Chauhan said that to be successful in life never forget to have duty towards society.    

Prof. (Dr.) Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor said that students are strength of any university and Amity is blessed to have best of brains as faculty & researchers and best learners in form of our students. Dr. Singh added that students must learn and motivate from these great leaders who are making India shining with their work globally. Students need to inculcate their best practices and learn from their experiences. 

Baroness Verma, Member of Parliament, UK said that a university is great reservoir of talent, culture and resources. Amity is one such university which is coming globally with great pace having great talent. Now Students have responsibility to give it back to university and society. Baroness Verma added that we in India forget how much India has given to world. Some of the great teachings, leanings, personalities of past should be known to the world. Baroness Verma said that this pandemic has taught us one great lesson that we all have to come together. We all have become global citizens and best minds must share their ideas. Giving advice to students, Baroness Verma said that there is so much of information is available through multiple sources, one should be able to differ between true and false information.

Lord Rami Ranger CBE, Member of Parliament, UK & Founder, Sunmark Group UK said that women empowerment is prerequisite for any developed society or country. Women are the architect of future generation. Lord Ranger added that our civilization is 5000 years old. We came from poor country which now is converted into fastest growing economy but our strength is our philosophy, culture, values which is creating positive impact to the whole world. Lord Ranger gave five golden principles for success in life – Self Respect, Commitment, Ethics, Empathy and Mission. Indian values stood by time, with values you can build strong foundation. He said that growth comes either by merging or buying or by building strategic alliances.

Mr. Jim Bligh, Director, Corporate Affairs UK & Ireland, Tata Consultancy Services said that TCS is in UK for the past 45 years and is one of the biggest job providers in UK. Lot of relations between UK & India is based on Technology. He said that Customer centricity is strength of TCS. Giving advice to students, Mr Bligh said that learning is continuous process, be enthusiastic and inquisitive and willing to learn throughout your career.

Prof. Kamal Bhattacharya, Co-Founder & CEO, Advancity, Former Professor MIT Sloan and Professor, IUBH University, Germany said that education should be impactful, employment focus, R&D centric. He added that Research & Development (R&D) is the fundamental driver of growth for any county. Indian has huge human population, entrepreneurs, education system which can make India as global leader. India needs to take leadership role.    

Ms. Lakshmi Kaul, Head, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), UK said that Indian living abroad serves as a bridge between India and their country. We are at a time of multilateralism. She added that when people travels they create collaborations, knowledge transfer. Ms. Kaul said that once Indians were named as job takers now hundreds of Indian companies in UK alone and thousand across globe are giving jobs. Moreover Indians living abroad are becoming job providers.  

At the end of the session, all panellists have a round of discussion on the global strategy of placement, how to overcome the difference of salary packages of students in Indian and US/UK Universities, the importance of global collaboration in the education sector was also discussed in detail by all panelists. 

Moderator of the session Dr. Gurinder Singh concluded the session and thanked all panelists, guests, and all present on the behalf of Amity Education Group. He added, from today's discussion it is established that global Indians can surely help Indian Universities become truly world-class universities and support Indian students to realize international dreams & become a successful Entrepreneur.
