6th Day of National Science Week – Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate at HMV dedicated to community

Jalandhar, February 27, 2022: Under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar is celebrating 7 day long Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate- Festival of Scope for all, “Science Communication, Popularization & Its Extension”. 
College is celebrating this event in association with Ministry of Culture, PSA Govt. of India and Vigyan Prasar, to mark 75th “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. 
This programme is organized under State Nodal Agency of Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh. The theme of 6th day of National Science Week celebrations was “The Road Ahead for Next 25 years of Indian Science and Technology”. 
The main attractions of the day were “Sci-Vision- Idea pitching competition and power point presentation competition”; lectures by experts, book fair, film show, innovation gallery, poster exhibition and science fair.  In addition to this little young ignited minds of schools were also main fascination of the day as they took part in various competition  organized in science festival like poster and model making, Rangoli, one act play, skit,  gidha/dance, poem recitation, speech and model making  etc.  6th day of this festival started with lighting of lamp followed by formal welcome of Chief Guests of the day Arvind Ghai, Secretary DAVCMC, New Delhi and judges of the various competitions by Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen, Meenakshi Syal, Convener, Dr. Neelam Sharma, Dr. Seema Marwaha and Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Coordinators of the event.  
On this occasion Principal Dr. Dr. Ajay Sareen said that Arvind Ghai always with us and supports us in our each endeavor. She also thanked the Govt. of India and Vigyan Prasar for giving opportunity to college to organize seven days National science festival which helps in communication, popularization and extension of science and technology.  She further  appreciated the sincere efforts of small school children who have showcased their talent through poster, scientific models, rangoli, one act play,  gidha/dance, poem recitation, and speech. Despite Sunday, a lot of children participated in this completion enthusiastically. Arvind Ghai said that these students are our future scientists and India will be safe in hands of such wonderful scientists. He also thanked Govt. of India and Vigyan Prasar for organizing such wonderful programme and inculcating scientific aptitude among students and public. 
During morning session, Dr. R.K. Agarwal, Scientist F, Defence Geo-informatics Research Establishment (DRGE), DRDO discussed about control and forecasting of snow avalanches. He had described the role of “SNOW-CHUTE- Understanding Dynamics of avalanche” in forecast of avalanche. DGRE designed and developed various avalanche control structures in formation zone, middle zone and run out zone of avalanche snow paths which inhibit the conversion of snow into avalanche and further damage to any structure. Snow Geo hazard gallery and RCC Cath Dam are the structures which are prepared near Atal Tunnel to reduce the damage to tunnel because of snow avalanche. He had also screened video clips related to control of snow avalanches issued by DRDO that fascinated the students. After this two documentary movies entitled “The Green Revolution - India's Independence and Scientific Community ” and “Tackling COVID-19 - Masks, Diagnostic kits, Ventilator” screened.  Dr Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor in Botany, Doaba College, Jalandhar and Sanjeewan Dhadwal Retd Principal, Govt High School, Patara judged the “Sci-Vision- power point presentation” competition. “Sci-Vision- Idea pitching” competition was judged by Dr. Sachin Kumar, National Institute of Renewable Energy Kapurthala. 6th day of science festival was dedicated to community where students of classes from first to fifth participated in various competition and won prizes. More than 80 students  of various schools of Jalandhar participated in these events and learnt various aspects of science and technology by experiential learning. In science fair Gurmeet Singh, National Awardee,  gave experiential learning to students based on various theorems of mathematics. In Idea Pitching Competition teams of Gauri Jindal stood first, Manu Bhardwaj stood second and Manhil stood third.  In PPT  Manroj stood first, Anshita stood second and Jasmin Kaur stood third. In poetry competition for school children Tripti and Tanish stood first, Kashish and Bhavya stood second and Arsleen stood third. In poster competition Dikha and Kiriti stood first and second respectively. 
Manju Joshi, Principal, Shiv Jyoti Public school, Jalandhar also took round of Science Fair Exhibition and Book Fair, where different departments gave experiential learning to students by performing live experiments. In evening session students enjoyed the experiential learning through “Hand Shake with Bioinformatics” with interesting educational games like “Fold it” and “Gene boy”. Dr. Harpreet Singh explained the application of bioinformatics in medical and agricultural sciences by demonstrating sequence analysis of DNA, proteins and 3D- visualization of proteins.  
Dr. Anjana Bhatia was incharge of the day and conducted the stage.
