1st National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition held in the city
Pendekanti Law College, Hyderabad, emerges as the winner, secures a ₹50,000 cash prize
Hyderabad, March 16, 2026: The Rotaract Club of Kanoon, a city-based global youth NGO, organised the 1st National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition at G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science, Shaikpet, Hyderabad. The event concluded late Sunday night.
A Moot Court Competition is a simulated court proceeding where law students argue fictional legal cases before a panel of judges. It is designed to train students in legal research, writing, and oral advocacy, similar to how lawyers argue cases in real courts.
The competition marked a significant milestone as one of the rare national-level moot court competitions organised by a non-institutional club, highlighting the growing contribution of youth-led legal initiatives in promoting academic excellence and advocacy skills.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from law students across the country, with teams representing institutions from Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and several other states. The event aimed to encourage budding legal professionals to develop research, advocacy, and courtroom skills while engaging with complex criminal law issues through simulated court proceedings.
The moot problem for the competition was thoughtfully drafted by Pavan Kasturi, Advocate at the High Court for the State of Telangana, presenting participants with a challenging and intellectually stimulating legal scenario.
After two days of intense rounds of legal arguments, memorial evaluations, and judicial scrutiny, the team from Pendekanti Law College, Hyderabad, emerged as the Winners, securing a cash prize of ₹50,000.
The Runner-Up title was awarded to the team from National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, who received a cash prize of ₹25,000.
In addition to the team awards, several individual recognitions were presented, including Best Speaker, Second Best Speaker, and Best Memorial, bringing the total prize pool to ₹90,000.
The entire prize money was generously sponsored by Sunil Bhaskar Ganu, whose support played a pivotal role in encouraging young legal talent.
The Final Rounds of the competition were adjudicated by a distinguished panel of legal luminaries, including Vemulapati Pattabhi and T. Niranjan Reddy, whose insightful observations and guidance greatly enriched the experience for the participants.
The event was further honoured by the presence of Bhuram Shankar, who attended as the Guest of Honour, inspiring participants with his encouragement and support for legal education.
The competition was organised under the leadership of Sriya Ranga, along with the dedicated efforts of the club’s leadership team, including Shlok Tiwari, Harpindhar Kaur, Sulochana Rani, Enaz Unnisa, and Yusaf Uzair, whose collective commitment ensured the success of the event.
The event was proudly supported by sponsors including Rao’s Academy, an institute dedicated to training civil services aspirants, and MyLawPoint, a platform providing training and guidance for judiciary aspirants.
Beyond academic excellence, the competition also carried a strong social commitment. The proceeds from the event will be directed towards sponsoring medication for children affected by HIV, reinforcing the Rotaract Club’s commitment to combining legal education with humanitarian service.
Through this pioneering initiative, the Rotaract Club of Hyderabad Kanoon has set a remarkable precedent by creating a platform that not only nurtures the next generation of legal professionals but also contributes meaningfully to society.
