Khanna (Ludhiana), June 5, 2026: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Friday declared that the Punjab government’s Yudh Nasheyan Virudh has reached a decisive phase and soon Punjab will be free of drugs.
In a meeting with members of Village Defense Committees and Ward Defense Committees, the Minister stated that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, it has dismantled the drug nexus completely. He added the campaign has been transformed into a social movement. Explaining the government’s zero-tolerance policy, he informed that anyone found involved in drug trafficking—whether politicians or bureaucrats—would not be spared. He stated that this anti-drug campaign is a major initiative aimed at making Punjab drug-free.
Sond added the government is working on rehabilitating young people addicted to drugs through de-addiction centers. He also mentioned that data gathered since the campaign began shows greater awareness among youth and college students, leading many to avoid drugs after witnessing their harmful consequences.
Sond further informed that more than 200 cases under the NDPS Act had been registered in Khanna subdivision in the past year, and over 400 people had been jailed in connection with these cases. Referring to recent action against an alleged drug trafficker, Gurdeep Rano, he told authorities demolished his property because the money was allegedly accumulated through drug trafficking.
Khanna Sub-Divisional Magistrate Payal Goyal appealed to citizens to share information about drug traffickers with police and also report through the Safe Punjab WhatsApp number: 9779100200.
Senior Medical Officer Dr. Maninder Singh Bhasin from Khanna Civil Hospital stated de-addiction treatment is possible and urged people to identify those suffering from substance abuse and help admit them to government rehabilitation centers.
