Addressing a health talk during the occasion, Dr Deepak Puri , senior cardiac surgeon at Max Hospital, Mohali emphasized upon the  beneficial role of yoga and music in managing several lifestyle diseases like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stress, anxiety depression and cancers .

He said that 80% of the lifestyle diseases deaths can be prevented by timely initiation of prevention yet unfortunately the majority of our population totally ignores prevention till they develop complications and seek medical attention only at the time major interventions become unavoidable.

Dr Puri emphasized that the current medical practices and unconventional modalities like yoga and music are complementary to each other and should not be competing with each other as far as delivery of best health practices to the community are concerned. Rational use of comprehensive management not only prevents complications but at the same time also improves outcomes and is more cost effective, he opined.

He also emphasized the benefits of yoga in controlling progression of coronary artery disease and maintaining physical and mental fitness. Music also relieves stress that may be helpful in preventing the onset of aging complications like dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and imbalance, he asserted.

Meanwhile Dr Puri also runs Cardiomersion as its global chairman, which incorporates all medical specialties as well as unconventional modalities like yoga and music to manage the growing menace of lifestyle diseases.
