World Cancer Day Awareness Programme at DMC&H

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, organized a series of academic, outreach, and awareness activities to emphasize the importance of cancer prevention and early detection. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H.

Ludhiana, February 18, 2026: On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana, organized a series of academic, outreach, and awareness activities to emphasize the importance of cancer prevention and early detection. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H.
The event was graced by Mukesh Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H, whose presence encouraged the organizing team.
The initiative also received strong support from the Principal, Dr. G. S. Wander, reflecting the institution’s strong commitment toward public health awareness. The Dean, Dr. Sandeep Kaushal, and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Sandeep Sharma, also marked their presence.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Ashima Taneja, Additional Medical Superintendent and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Cancer awareness sessions were conducted for OPD patients within the hospital premises. Senior clinicians and heads of various departments highlighted the importance of regular health check-ups, early diagnosis, and timely follow-up. Academic activities, including quiz and poster-making competitions for resident doctors, were organized to promote oncology-focused learning and academic excellence. Prize winners were felicitated during the event.
Faculty members and assistant professors from the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics actively contributed to the successful organization and execution of the programme.
As part of its outreach initiative, similar awareness programmes were conducted at Urban Health Centre, Shimlapuri, and Rural Health Centre, Pohir. Patients were sensitized about cancer prevention, and free screening for breast and cervical cancer was provided.
Through these collective efforts, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to cancer awareness, screening, and early detection in the ongoing fight against cancer.
