World breast feeding week observed at CMC & Hospital

Ludhiana: World breastfeeding week from 1st to 7th August is being observed at Christian Medical College and Hospital Ludhiana. The theme for this year is to "Support Breastfeeding for a Healthier Planet."

Dr. Kavita M. Bhatti, Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology emphasized that breastfeeding is not a choice but a responsibility. It provides every child with the best possible start in life. Breast feeding delivers health, nutritional, and emotional benefits to both mother and child. Breast feeding should be initiated within the first hour of birth. The new-born should receive breast milk exclusively for 6 months and continued up to two years with the addition of appropriate complementary foods. Breastmilk promotes child survival and well-being.
