Chandigarh, March 10, 2026: The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh today organised a workshop on Child Rights and Protection: Understanding. The session was facilitated by Manjula Sularia, UN Ambassador, Governor Awardee, and renowned POCSO/POSH trainer.
Sularia, a distinguished social entrepreneur and Director of Prasanchetas Foundation, drew upon her extensive field experience to highlight the main features of the POCSO Act, 2012. Through real-life case studies, she illustrated the practical challenges and safeguards embedded in the legislation, making the discussion both accessible and impactful for participants.
A key emphasis of the workshop was on student engagement in child protection advocacy. Sularia encouraged participants to pursue certification as POCSO trainers, thereby equipping them to lead sensitisation and awareness drives within educational institutions and the wider community.
Dr.Upneet Kaur Mangat, Chairperson, Centre for Human Rights and Duties emphasized the initiative reflects the Centre’s commitment to bridging academic knowledge with practical advocacy, empowering students to become agents of change in safeguarding children’s rights. Prof. Namita Gupta (DSW) who presided over as Guest of Honour said by fostering awareness and training, CHRD continues to advance its mission of promoting human rights education and social responsibility.
The workshop witnessed active participation from faculty, students, and staff of CHRD, who engaged in dialogue on strengthening legal literacy and fostering a culture of child rights protection.
