Nilokheri, August 20, 2026: Dr Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), said entrepreneurship was not merely about starting a business, but about fostering self-reliance, innovation and employment generation.
Addressing the inaugural session of a seven-day training programme on entrepreneurship development at HIRD, Dr Chauhan said women resource persons could play a key role in economically empowering rural women by connecting them with entrepreneurial opportunities.
He said Indian women had historically been symbols of courage, leadership and self-reliance and were inheritors of the knowledge tradition of Vedic sages. Urging participants to draw inspiration from Rani Lakshmibai, he said women had made significant contributions to Indian knowledge, culture and nation-building.
Dr Chauhan said the training would be meaningful only when its benefits reached the last person in society. He urged women resource persons to treat the programme not as a formality but as a mission to help rural women become successful entrepreneurs.
Connecting self-help group members with self-employment opportunities based on local resources and market potential, he said, would strengthen the vision of a self-reliant Haryana and a developed India.
Programme coordinator Sandeep Kumar outlined the training schedule and technical sessions, saying the programme would focus on leadership, innovation, problem-solving and business management skills.
L.P. Bhatt, an expert from the National Skill Institute, Panipat, spoke on skill development, enterprise creation and modern training methods. He stressed that the quality of trainers was a key factor in the success of entrepreneurship development programmes.
Kamaldeep Sangwan, Saurabh Arora, Ajay Kumar and Mohit Kumar, besides women members of self-help groups and other participants from various districts, were present.
