Chandigarh, August 18, 2022: Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a Webinar on the topic “Specific Learning Disabilities in Inclusive Classrooms: Strengths, Challenges and Interventions”. The Chief Patron of the webinar Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The resource person for the webinar, Dr. Renu Malviya, Professor, Department of Education Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi, focused on the different types of Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). The webinar started at 3:00 pm., with a welcome address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Navleen Kaur, Chairperson, Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Dr. Renu Malviya started the session by giving an Insight into Specific Learning Disabilities by focusing on the major theme of the webinar, which she explained beautifully. Speaker explained that Specific learning disability is an umbrella term that can describe many different types of learning issues including dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. Different types of specific learning disabilities require different interventions. Specific learning disabilities are brain-based disorders and are not caused by external factors such as diet or activity. She also focused on the NEP 2020 which is all about learner-centred and Universal Design of Learning(UDL), The goal of UDL is to use variety of teaching methods to remove any barriers to learning and give all students equal opportunities to succeed. Faculty members, research scholars, B.Ed Special Education (Learning Disability) students and Rehabilitation Professionals across the country participated in the webinar.  The webinar was organised by Dr Md. Saifur Rahman, Mr Nitin Raj, and Mr Taukir Alam.
