Webinar on theme “Ensuring Inclusive Education and Sustainable Environment for Children with Special Needs”

Chandigarh, February 15, 2024: The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, Panjab University, organized a webinar on the theme “Ensuring Inclusive Education and Sustainable Environment for Children with Special Needs” on 14th February, at 2.30 pm under the patronage of our honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof.(Dr) Renu Vig,and Chaired by Dr.Md Saifur Rahman, Chairperson of the department. Resource Person, Padam Shri Prof. (Dr) Uma Tulli, Founder and Managing Secretary of Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, Delhi and Former Chief Commissioner Disabilities, started the lecture with saying “Inclusion is the celebration of diversity put into action”. She focuses on that sustainability can only be achieved with social equity and social progress. speaker explained basic components of inclusion like; training of teachers, teaching material, barrier free environment, equal opportunity, full participation, support services, and parental involvement. She also introduced the methods and three components of Universal Design for Learning (UDL); 1. multiple means of representation, 2. multiple means of engagement, 3. multiple means of expression. At the end, Dr. Rahman presented the vote of thanks and said that to ensure the inclusive education for children with special needs, its mandatory to establish UDL model in our schools.
