Visitors Explore Phulkari, Block Painting and other Traditional Crafts at SUPVA’s ‘Sutram’ Design Fest; Live workshops offer hands-on training by master artisans
School students and visitors got a hands-on glimpse into India’s rich traditional crafts on Thursday, the second day of the three-day ‘Sutram’ Design Festival at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak.

Rohtak, August 13, 2026: School students and visitors got a hands-on glimpse into India’s rich traditional crafts on Thursday, the second day of the three-day ‘Sutram’ Design Festival at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak.
Students from several schools visited the university to explore the design exhibition and participate in live workshops conducted by renowned artisans.
The live workshops were a major attraction, with Padma Shri awardee Khemraj Sundriyal demonstrating handloom techniques; Kamla Award recipient Gurinder Kaur Bhullar teaching Punjab’s Phulkari embroidery; Ministry of Textiles-registered artisan Vandana Gupta showcasing fabric jewellery; National Award winner Dayachand explaining terracotta craft; and National Award and National Merit Award recipient Avadhesh Pandey training participants in block painting.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Amit Arya visited the festival and interacted with students. He also participated in the block-painting workshop and tried his hand at the craft. Registrar Dr Gunjan Malik Manocha, university officials and faculty members were also present.
Students from Maharaja Agrasen Public School, Pathania Public School, Model School and other institutions attended the festival with their teachers. The exhibition showcased a blend of art, craft and fashion, featuring traditional and contemporary attire created by SUPVA students.
A special attraction was a map of India depicting the distinctive crafts of different states through their traditional costumes and textiles. The university campus was also creatively decorated by students, reflecting their artistic talent.
The workshops saw enthusiastic participation from school students and city residents, with several participants sitting alongside artisans and trying their hand at traditional crafts. Food and product stalls set up under the university’s ‘Chaupati’ initiative, along with selfie points also drew visitors throughout the day.
Registrar Dr Gunjan Malik Manocha said the festival would conclude on August 14 with a fashion show featuring SUPVA students.
