Virtual tour of National Institute of Plant Genome Research

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Seat of Women Empowerment with Top National and State Rankings by India Today Survey of Best Colleges 2020 (various categories) & Outlook Magazine organized a virtual tour of National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi under DBT Star College Status through Science Setu Program. More than 100 students along with the faculty members participated in the virtual tour with full zeal and enthusiasm. Dra. Subhra Chakraborty, Director, NIPGR showed all the labs to participants of NIPGR through a virtual tour. She commenced her lecture by acquainting the participants about the basics of science and research. She explained how plant evolved with the changes in climatic and environmental conditions. She stressed upon landmarks & milestones in Plant Science & Biotechnology and told how the genome of plants can be edited to maintain both the quality and yield of the crop. She concluded her lecture discussing the future of plant research mitigating agricultural and clinical needs towards food & nutritional security. She mentioned the need to breed nutritive value added crops for better human nutrition and feed; breed varieties as source of medicinally important biomolecule for plant and human health. Dr. Amarjeet Singh, Scientist, NIPGR attended the questions of the participant’s and also gave Vote of Thanks. 
Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that it was an intellectual and exciting experience for all the participants. She further maintained that KMV always strive to impart quality based science education to the students and always keep on organizing such meaningful activities for the betterment of the students.
