Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal inaugurates the Adolescent-Friendly Health and Child Guidance Clinics at PGIMS
Rohtak, March 17, 2026: Children up to the age of 14 typically receive treatment in the Department of Pediatrics; while those over 14 may consult the Department of Medicine in the event of a major illness. But it is frequently observed that adolescents—aged 14 to 19—face significant stress and sexual health-related issues. Due to the lack of a designated specialist for these specific problems, young people often resorted to consulting unqualified practitioners or seeking remedies via Google, thereby causing harm to their physical health. Recognizing this predicament faced by the youth, Dr. Kundan Mittal, HOD Pediatrics, proposed the establishment of a specialized clinic.
Dr. H.K. Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor of Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, approved this proposal with immediate effect and appointed a dedicated physician for the initiative. On Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor formally inaugurated the Adolescent-Friendly Health Clinic and the Child Guidance Clinic, which have been established within the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the Department of Pediatrics at PGIMS.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Agarwal remarked that this is a highly significant and rapidly evolving department. He said that these clinics would serve as a vital resource for addressing the health and guidance needs of adolescents and children. He further emphasized that the university's objective is to ensure a healthy and secure future for the younger generation.
Director Dr. S.K. Singhal hailed the clinic as a major achievement for the university, noting that it would provide high-quality medical services to adolescents and children.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Kundan Mittal affirmed the institute's commitment to ensuring that every young person has access to quality healthcare services—specifically within an environment where they can openly and comfortably discuss their concerns. He added that expert psychologists and counselors stationed at the clinic would provide treatment and counseling for mental health issues affecting the youth. The clinic, which will operate every Tuesday, will offer counseling services covering a range of issues, including anxiety and depression, behavioral disorders, suicidal ideation, and substance abuse.
The Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. Savita Singhal, said that this clinic will provide mental health services, information regarding sex-related issues, health education, and counseling to young people. Dr. N.D. Vaswani, Dr. Alok, Dr. Alka, Dr. Anjali, Dr. Neha, and other physicians were present on this occasion.
