VC Prof Sudesh motivated girl students to acquire leadership roles

India is the only country where measures are taken to include women in political leadership. The Women's Reservation Bill is a major step in this direction. There is a lot of potential for women to take up leadership roles. Vice Chancellor of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV) Prof. Sudesh said this in her presidential address in the two-day national seminar organized by the Department of Political Science of the Institute of Higher Learning.

Khanpur Kalan, March 5, 2024: India is the only country where measures are taken to include women in political leadership. The Women's Reservation Bill is a major step in this direction. There is a lot of potential for women to take up leadership roles. Vice Chancellor of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV) Prof. Sudesh said this in her presidential address in the two-day national seminar organized by the Department of Political Science of the Institute of Higher Learning.

The national seminar on "Changing Pattern of Leadership in India" is sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi. VC Prof. Sudesh said that we have academic institutes and related courses available to gain mastery in every field. But no training is given for political leadership. Emphasizing the need for leadership training in the rapidly changing socio-political equations, VC Prof. Sudesh said that proper training is necessary for aspirant leaders.

In her inspirational address, VC Prof. Sudesh said that earlier there was a perception that politics is not for good people, but now educated youth coming into this field is a good initiative. She also gave examples of some institutions providing leadership capacity building programs including ISD (Indian School of Democracy). The Vice Chancellor motivated the girl students to acquire leadership roles.

Dr. Kushal Pal, Principal of Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa; in his keynote address said that it is important to know about the qualities of a leader. He said that qualities like quick decision making, communication skills, competency, efficiency etc. are necessary for political leadership. He also mentioned the crisis of leadership in the whole world as well as the decay of democracy. Dr. Kushal Pal talked about the constitutional paradigm in India.

Guest of Honour, Dr. Ramesh Kumar, Chairman of the Department of Political Science, Central University of Haryana, Mahendragarh, shared his views on the crisis of credibility in Indian politics. He also described the significant role media play in creating the narrative of society about leadership.

VC Prof. Sudesh, along with other guests, inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Ravi Bhushan conducted the inaugural session. Seminar convener and Chairman of the Department of Political Science, Dr. Rampal highlighted the outline of the program. Seminar Director and Principal of IHL, Dr. Veena presented the welcome address.

VC Prof. Sudesh also released the souvenir of the seminar. The inaugural session ended with the national anthem. The Vice Chancellor also administered the oath to the people present to vote responsibly. Seven technical sessions are being organized in this national seminar, in which about 100 faculty members and research scholars from 15 universities of 10 states including West Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi are participating.
