Vajra Corps Celebrates  Vijay Diwas

Jalandhar, December 16, 2015: Vajra Corps celebrated Vijay Diwas on 16 Dec 2015, to commemorate the finest hour of the Indian Armed Forces, which came about with the triumph in the 1971 war.  This historic victory signifies a unique and unparalleled feat, wherein our forces fought selflessly for a just and noble cause, to liberate the people of Bangladesh.  The Vajra Corps proved its mettle on the strategic Western Front and achieved its objectives with elan and vigour.   A proud nation conferred 8 Maha Vir Chakras, 47 Vir Chakras and numerous other awards on the valiant men of the Vajra Corps.  The  Corps was also bestowed with the Theatre Honour : Punjab in 1965, 1971 wars and Battle Honours : Dograi, Barki & Asal Uttar in 1965 war, Dera Baba Nanak, Fatehpur in 1971 war.
Lt Gen Jagbir Singh Cheema,  General Officer Commanding,  Vajra Corps, other senior serving and retired officers and veterans of the 1971 war including Sub Ajmer Singh, Vir Chakra (Retd), paid homage and tributes to the Martyrs at the Vajra Corps War Memorial.
The General Officer Commanding Vajra Corps while paying rich tributes to the Martyrs and their families assured them of full support.  He stressed the necessity of operational readiness and exhorted all ranks to be well prepared for any eventuality.  The GOC reiterated that professional excellence alone can help us achieve such spectacular victories in the future.
