Chandigarh, May 23, 2026: Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon has welcomed the decision of the Chandigarh Administration to open the registration of General Power of Attorney (GPA), calling it a historic and people-centric move that will benefit nearly 52,000 properties across the city.
Expressing gratitude to UT Administrator and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Tandon said the decision would provide long-awaited relief to thousands of families who had been living under uncertainty for years due to the non-registration of GPA properties.
Tandon stated that he had repeatedly raised the issue before the UT Administrator and senior officials on several occasions, highlighting the hardships faced by genuine GPA holders who were being denied proper ownership rights despite residing in their properties for decades. He said the absence of registration had created legal complications, difficulties in property transactions and immense mental stress for middle-class families.
Calling the move a major step towards ensuring justice and transparency, Tandon said the Administration had shown sensitivity towards the concerns of residents by addressing a long-pending public issue. He added that the decision would not only regularise property ownership but also strengthen public trust in the administration.
The BJP leader further said that Chandigarh residents had been awaiting a practical and humane solution to the GPA issue for many years, and the Administration’s decision would bring stability and legal clarity to thousands of households.
Tandon expressed hope that the implementation process would be carried out smoothly and efficiently so that all eligible property holders could avail the benefits without unnecessary delays or complications.
