Uproar erupts over MDU's NAAC accreditation; MP Deepender Hooda demands the immediate removal of the Vice Chancellor and the responsible officials
The university administration cited the new accreditation system.
Rohtak, 02 December, 2025: Lok Sabha MP Deepender Hooda expressed serious concern over reports that the NAAC A+ grading was revoked due to deliberate negligence by the MDU administration, jeopardizing the future of thousands of students, jeopardizing their degrees, and resulting in the loss of crores of rupees in UGC grants.
In a press release, the MP said that MDU's false NAAC A+ grading is a symbol of academic fraud and the dire state of higher education across Haryana. Following the NAAC accreditation's revocation, the UGC declared MDU ineligible to offer ODL/online courses. The UGC letter clearly states that the renewal process should have begun six months before the NAAC accreditation expires in March 2024, but this was not done. The required documents were not submitted on time.
MP Deepender Hooda demanded the immediate removal of the Vice Chancellor and the responsible officials from their posts. He also demanded that legal action be taken against those who deceived students by showing fake accreditations. He also said that a fresh application for NAAC accreditation should be immediately initiated. He said that the revelations regarding MDU prove that the higher education system in Haryana has completely fallen prey to corruption and administrative inefficiency. A timely inspection would have exposed the entire fall in the university's rating, and therefore, the matter was deliberately suppressed. The university administration deliberately attempted to avoid inspections to avoid the university's declining rating.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by MDU's Public Relations Officer provided official information on behalf of the university regarding the misconceptions being spread regarding NAAC accreditation. According to the press release, MDU has taken serious cognizance of the misleading information presented in some media reports regarding NAAC accreditation. The university considers it its duty to make public the true and verifiable situation in a calm, clear, and transparent manner, in the larger interest of its students, parents, alumni, staff, and all other stakeholders.
The release stated that MDU was awarded a NAAC grade of A+ in 2019, with a validity of five years. Before the expiry of this period, NAAC issued a public notice on January 27, 2024, announcing the implementation of the new accreditation system. NAAC said that the new system would come into effect within the next four months and that no new applications would be accepted under the current system.
Given this significant policy change, MDU decided to apply under the new system in a timely manner and requested NAAC to allow the university to submit IIQA and SSR according to the new system, while continuing to validate the existing A+ grade until then. MDU has been in constant contact with NAAC since then.
In June 2024, NAAC again clarified that new accreditation systems—binary accreditation (from July 2024) and maturity-based graded-level accreditation (from January 2025)—would be implemented, but these processes have not yet been fully implemented at the NAAC level. The university clarified that the university is fully prepared for the new accreditation cycle, but the portal/process for the new system has not yet been formally launched by NAAC, due to which the university is waiting to apply.
