Chandigarh, August 9, 2022: Dr Deepak Puri director of cardiovascular thoracic surgery at Max Hospital, Mohali was bestowed with a special honour by Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore at Delhi University on Tuesday.

Dr Puri who is also a Global Chairman of was honoured for his outstanding contributions to promote comprehensive management of cardiovascular diseases during Nasha Mukth Samajik Sankalph program.

Dr Puri also addressed a health talk on addiction where he stressed upon that   addictions among youngsters are emerging as the biggest healthcare problem in current times. Tobacco smoking is nowadays the number one cause of preventable death followed by obesity and alcohol abuse .Abuse of drugs like cocaine is emerging as the leading cause of heart attacks and sudden death among youngsters.

There are several reasons why youngsters fall prey to drug abuse. Emotional instability, peer pressure, curiosity and stress are main factors that allure them towards addictions, he said.
