UIHTM Organises Entrepreneurship Awareness Workshop to Promote Startup Culture Among Students

The University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (UIHTM), Panjab University, in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED), organised an Entrepreneurship Awareness Workshop to create awareness among students about entrepreneurship opportunities and government startup schemes.

Chandigarh, March 12, 2026: The University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (UIHTM), Panjab University, in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED), organised an Entrepreneurship Awareness Workshop to create awareness among students about entrepreneurship opportunities and government startup schemes.

The programme began with a welcome address by the Director of UIHTM, Dr Jaswinder Kumar, who emphasised the growing importance of entrepreneurship among youth. He highlighted that the tourism and hospitality sector offers immense opportunities for innovative ventures such as travel startups, food enterprises, event management, and sustainable tourism initiatives. He encouraged students to develop entrepreneurial thinking and become job creators.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr Lipika Kaur Guliani, who highlighted the importance of such awareness programmes in motivating students to explore startup opportunities and understand the practical aspects of establishing and managing entrepreneurial ventures.

During the workshop, RCED expert Satvinder Singh shared valuable insights about various government initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship in India. He discussed major national programmes of the Government of India such as Make in India, Startup India, Stand Up India, Skill India, and Digital India, with special emphasis on opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

He also explained central government schemes supporting new entrepreneurs, including the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME), which provide financial assistance, training, and support to aspiring entrepreneurs.

The workshop was highly interactive, with students actively participating in discussions and asking questions about starting their own ventures. The session provided valuable insights into entrepreneurship, government support mechanisms, and startup opportunities available to young entrepreneurs.

Faculty members and students of UIHTM attended the programme and appreciated the initiative aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among youth.
