Chandigarh, March 27, 2026: As many as, 804 University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) Panjab University (PU) Engineering Graduates received Degrees during the Degree Award Ceremony 2026 at the PU Convention Centre.
The graduating students included 185 from Computer Science Engineering, 101 from Information Technology, 190 from Electronics & Communication Engineering, 107 from Mechanical Engineering, 147 from Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and 74 from Biotechnology.
A key highlight of the event was the felicitation of distinguished alumni, including Naman Agarwal, Akhil Phirani, Vikram Singh Bajwa, Prerna Singh, Dharam Pal Chaudhary, among others, along with the presentation of medals and academic honours to meritorious students. The ceremony culminated in the formal conferring of degrees to the graduating batches of 2024 and 2025. Medals and Distinguished Alumnus Awards were also presented to recognise academic excellence and professional achievements.
Marking its first major academic event at the newly operational venue, the ceremony was presided over by the PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, with UT Chief Secretary, H. Rajesh Prasad, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Earlier, the Degree Award Ceremony commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the presence of PU Dean of University Instruction Prof. Yojna Rawat, PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma, Controller of Examination Prof. Jagat Bhushan and Director UIET Prof. Sukhwinder Singh.
In his motivational address to the graduating students, H. Rajesh Prasad underlined the role of engineers in nation-building and described them as most intelligent and cream of the cream. He said, “The day you stop learning is the day you stop growing. As engineers, you must expand your knowledge beyond technical domains and develop a broader understanding of society, governance, and ethics.” He further added, “Your responsibility is not only to build careers but also to contribute meaningfully to the nation and society.” He lauded Panjab University for being on top in the nation and bringing laurels at the global stage. He said that getting education at such prestigious institution should be a matter of pride for its students. He called upon the students to always be grateful to their parents and teachers from primary to University level.
PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Renu Vig highlighted the evolution of UIET since its establishment in 2002. Noting its growth from four initial departments to six undergraduate and multiple postgraduate programmes with a student strength of around 2500. She emphasised the importance of continuous learning in a rapidly evolving technological landscape and urged students to maintain balance in personal and professional life while contributing meaningfully to society.
Prof. Vig stated, “UIET has grown from four departments to a comprehensive institute with multiple programmes and a strong academic base. As technology evolves rapidly, continuous learning is essential, but equally important is maintaining balance, inner well-being, and contributing as responsible members of society.”
The proceedings also included remarks by the Director, UIET, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh, along with the PU Registrar Prof. Y. P. Verma, who congratulated the students and motivated them to uphold the values and excellence imparted by the institution in their future endeavours.
The ceremony witnessed the participation of students, faculty members, and parents, marking an important academic milestone for UIET and Panjab University.
