The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and staff, and highlighted this year’s theme- Yoga for Healthy Ageing, which emphasizes the role of yoga in maintaining physical vitality, mental clarity and emotional resilience throughout life.

Nauni, June 21, 2026: Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm at the university sports complex on Sunday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and staff, and highlighted this year’s theme- Yoga for Healthy Ageing, which emphasizes the role of yoga in maintaining physical vitality, mental clarity and emotional resilience throughout life.

The programme was organized with experts from the Yogananda School of Spirituality and Happiness leading the yoga sessions. The visiting team included Head of Department Dr Nidheesh Yadav and faculty members Dr. Rama Mishra and Gautam Sahu.

Dr. Devina Vaidya, Director of Research, welcomed the participants and spoke about the significance and origins of International Yoga Day. She said that while modern lifestyles have brought comfort and convenience, they have also contributed to stress and lifestyle-related ailments. Referring to the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’ Dr. Vaidya emphasized that regular yoga practice can help individuals of all age groups maintain good health, improve flexibility and immunity, and promote mental well-being. She urged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily routine to lead a balanced and stress-free life.

The experts conducted a one-hour yoga and meditation session and shared insights on yoga, spirituality and simple living. They highlighted the importance of healthy food, sound sleep and the channelization of energy towards meaningful goals. Emphasizing that yoga is much more than physical exercise, they described it as a holistic way of life that promotes harmony between the body, mind and spirit. Dr. D.R. Bhardwaj, Dean of Students’ Welfare, proposed the vote of thanks.

Participants were introduced to various yoga asanas, their proper techniques and associated health benefits. The programme concluded with a message encouraging participants to adopt yoga as a lifelong practice for healthy and active ageing. More than 250 individuals participated in the event, including university officers, heads of departments, faculty members, staff, students, NCC cadets, NSS and Scouts and Guides volunteers, along with a team from the Botanical Survey of India.

The celebration reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting holistic health and wellness and echoed the timeless message that yoga is a powerful tool for ensuring healthy ageing and enhancing the quality of life.
