Two-day National Seminar on "Sacrifices of Unsung Patriots of Punjab in India's Freedom Struggle" concludes at Lyallpur Khalsa College

Jalandhar, March 20, 2023: A two-day National Seminar on "Sacrifices of Unsung Patriots of Punjab in India's Freedom Struggle" was organized by Post Graduate Department of History under the guidance of Principal Prof. Jasreen Kaur in Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, the premier academic institution of North India. This seminar was sponsored by Indian Council for Social Science and Research, New Delhi. 

Inaugurating the second day of the seminar, Principal Prof. Jasreen Kaur said that the young generation should take inspiration from the lives of the freedom fighters to create the India of their dreams. Dr. Charanjit Kaur Mann, Associate Professor, Amardeep Singh Shergil Memorial College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar shared her thoughts on the Gadar movement of 1913-1915 in her inaugural address. She presented the life story of Gadar Party revolutionary Veerangana Gulab Kaur in a historical perspective. Assistant Professor Dr. Rupam Jasmeet Kaur from Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Delhi University explained the background of PEPSU (Patiala and East Punjab States Union). She shared his thoughts with the students about many untouched aspects of the farmers' struggle in PEPSU. Dr. Kulnaz Kaur, Assistant Professor, D.A.V. University Jalandhar narrated the life story of Lado Rani Jutshi, who was inspired by the 1919 Zalianwala Bagh in Punjab and joined the freedom struggle. She was arrested by the British government in the Riot Satyagraha, Civil Disobedience Movement, Quit India Movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. UNESCO Observer Surinder Saini discussed the political situation arising out of the Second World War through the life of Ajit Singh Saini, who was part of the Azad Hind Fauj led by his father Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and the establishment of the Azad Hind Fauj, its scope of operations, described the successes and failures. 

Surinder Singh, who retired from the post of Principal from Lopoke, ITI in Amritsar narrated the contribution of his father Jaimal Singh in the freedom struggle. He told how Jaimal Singh was affected by the Jallianwale Bagh incident. He actively participated in the Gurdwara reform movement and tolerated the excesses of the British rule. Similarly Gyan Singh, who represents organizations associated with the families of freedom fighters, expressed his views on the behaviour of the governments at present. He said that the families of the freedom fighters also tolerated the oppression of the British government. 

At the end of the session, Dr. Suman Chopra, head of the PG Department of History thanked the scholars for giving scholarly information about many untouched aspects of the freedom struggle. Dr. Amandeep Kaur played the role of stage secretary well. Dr. Ajitpal Singh, Dr. Balraj Singh, Prof. Onkar Singh, Prof. Bhavna, Prof. Preeti, Prof. Anu Moom worked as a team in making this seminar a success. 

On this occasion, seminar convener Dr. Karanbir Singh, Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu, Dr. Simranjit Singh Bains, Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Dr. Surinderpal Mand, Dr. Harjinder Singh, Prof. Kuldeep Sodhi, heads of various departments, teachers and a large number of students were present.
