Training for Board of Directors of FPO concluded at Vet Varsity

Ludhiana, Feeeebruary 21, 2024: Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized three days training programmes entitled “ FPO-based Scientific Dairy farming” for capacity building of board of directors of Mushkabad FAM Dairy Producer Company Limited.
Dr Rajesh Kasrija and Dr Amandeep Singh, training coordinators informed that Mushkabad FAM Dairy Producer Company Limited is a FPO working under the technical support from Vet Varsity. Deliberations on various aspects of scientific dairy farming such as breed characteristics, identification of animal, record keeping, fodder conservation, balanced feeding, housing management; prevention and control of various diseases, reproductive management and dairy waste management were delivered by University experts.
Special lecture for Preparation of effective business plan of FPO and marketing management of FPO was delivered by Dr Khushdeep Dharni, Professor, School of Business Studies, Punjab Agricultural University.
Davinder Kumar, DDM, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development delivered a lecture on the marketing channel of milk for better price realization.
Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension education informed that this training programme was conducted under a research project entitled “Promotion of Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) on dairy Farming in district Ludhiana” funded by National bank for Agriculture and Rural development (NABARD). This FPO is operational in block Samrala, has been registered under Indian Company act and has more than 100 members.
It is pertinent to mention that FPO is one of the main projects of the Indian government that can assist farmers to organize themselves into groups and it also offers a commercial perspective for the farming system, linking farmers with the market so as to improve their socio-economic level.
On this occasion, Vet Varsity books were also distributed to the Board of Directors of the FPO by Sh. Davinder Kumar , DDM, NABARD.
