Chandigarh, August 1, 2025: The Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop on Social Emotional Education – Knowledge to Practice (SEEK) concluded today at the Department of Education, Panjab University. The workshop was organized under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNESCO MGIEP, with the aim of equipping educators with Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies to create compassionate, resilient, and inclusive academic spaces.
On the concluding day, facilitators Dr. Richa Bansal and Ankita in their talks focused on deeper exploration of SEL themes such as Self-Compassion, Boundaries, Forgiveness, Impartiality, Common Humanity, Neuroplasticity, Empathy, and Kindness.
Participants today engaged in hands-on learning and thoughtful discussions that bridged theory with lived experience. The importance of ethical mindfulness and emotional resilience in academic settings was a recurring emphasis throughout the sessions.
The facilitators also detailed the structure and implementation process for delivering the SEEK online course to students. The training enabled participants not only to facilitate SEL content effectively but also to model SEL skills in their roles as educators.
Faculty members and research scholars from diverse departments—including UIAMS, Education, Dental Sciences, Law, History, UBS, and Psychology—participated in the workshop.
Reflecting on the workshop’s impact, Prof. Latika Sharma noted, “The positive feedback from educators makes it clear that there is a growing demand for value-based, emotionally intelligent education. SEEK addresses this need by offering a structured, research-based approach that can be applied across disciplines.”
Prof. Yojna Rawat, in her opening day, proposed that such capacity-building initiatives become an annual feature at Panjab University. “To build resilience among both educators and youth, SEL training must be institutionalized as part of our academic ecosystem,” she emphasised.
Prof. Yojna Rawat and Prof. Satvinderpal, Chairperson, Department of Education suggested expansion of the MoU to include research and curriculum development in Human values.
The course was coordinated by Prof. Monika Aggarwal and Prof. Kuldeep Kaur.
