The ‘Rang Sur’ Music Festival, held at MDU's Tagore Auditorium, concluded with a captivating performance by Vidushi Sanhita Nandi, a renowned singer of the Kirana Gharana. Her melodious voice filled the entire auditorium with the melodious experience of classical music.
Rohtak, February 19, 2026: The ‘Rang Sur’ Music Festival, held at MDU's Tagore Auditorium, concluded with a captivating performance by Vidushi Sanhita Nandi, a renowned singer of the Kirana Gharana. Her melodious voice filled the entire auditorium with the melodious experience of classical music.
Sanhita Nandi began her performance with a profound and soulful Vilambit Khayal, which clearly reflected the Kirana Gharana's hallmarks of purity of notes, detail, and subtle alap. The depth of the raga and the nuances of the tonal mesmerized the audience. The presentation of Drut Khayal and Tarana energized the program. Vidushi Nandi gracefully brought alive the tradition of the Kirana Gharana, renowned for its vocal practice and subtle elaboration of the raga. Her singing showcased a remarkable blend of emotion, technique, and spirituality.
Following the classical performance, Sanhita Nandi captivated the audience with her rendition of ghazal, "Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo." She presented a magnificent example of ghazal singing with her rendition of "Nazariya Lage Nahi Kahin Aur." She concluded the program with a beautiful, poignant Bengali song, showcasing the universality of music. Sanhita Nandi's singing performance was accompanied by Tarun Joshi on harmonium and Nitin Sharma on tabla.
In the opening performance, students from the Music Department - Abhishek, Anish, Dev Sharma, Monica, Nikita, Komal Thakur, and Muskan Morwal, led by Prof. Surendra, presented a superb sitar performance. Renowned tabla player Arvibhav Verma provided excellent accompaniment on tabla.
Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Harish Kumar underscored the importance of music in life. Rang Sur Convener Professor Vimal said that this Rang Sur event left an unforgettable impression of music in the minds of the audience.
Prof. Sunit Mukherjee translated the Bengali song into Hindi, capturing its beauty. He expressed his gratitude and described Sanhita Nandi's singing and the accompanying artists' performance as a gift of peace. Dr. Saurabh Verma conducted the program. Music lovers from Rohtak and MDU, including Prof. Savita Rathi, Dr. Darshana Chaudhary, and Dr. Manju Batra, were present on the occasion.
