The Play "Umar Ka Parwana" on the third day of ‘Bharangam’, depicts a family's story of love, sorrow, and justice
The 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav (Bhararangam), the world's largest theatre festival organized by the National School of Drama (NSD), is being held in 44 cities across the country. The Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak has got the opportunity to host the event in Haryana.
On the third day of ‘Bharangam’, the play "Umar Ka Parwana" was staged by the Department of Performance and Fine Arts of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. In this play, which lasts about one hour and 15 minutes, the actors brought alive the story of love, sorrow, and justice, depicting the struggles of a family. Based on a story by writer Vijaydan Detha, the play is directed by Dr. Adish Kumar Verma.
Based on a folk tale, the play "Umar Ka Parwana" begins with the marriage of Kesar and Bela. Their happy life is shattered when an evil tantrik arrives and ruins everything. After Kesar and Bela's marriage, their lives change dramatically as the tantrik begins killing all the members of their family. Bela somehow escapes the tantrik and begins a new life with her son, Bhanu. As Bhanu grows up, he learns about his ancestors' past and decides to take revenge on the tantrik, ultimately succeeding in bringing his entire family back to life.
The play depicts a magical world that believes that goodness always triumphs over evil. Around 34 actors performed in the play. Interestingly, actors from different states of India, as well as foreign actors, delivered dialogues in Hindi and Indian languages. Director Dr. Adish Kumar Verma said that the play featured artists from Haryana, Bihar, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, as well as Sri Lanka.
The play features six Sri Lankan artists, speaking and singing in Haryanvi, Rajasthani, and Hindi. Puvanenthiran Ratikala, Deepak Kumar, Navneet Kumar, Vishal Prasad, Rahul Raj, Akash Deep Singh Sidhu, Desraj, Devishmita Das, Sandeep Yadav, Kanak Shekhawat, Shivam Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Shubham Bharti, Sanjeev Kumar, Pushp Kumar Rajeev, Krishna Kumar Chandramohan, Muralidharan Aritharan, and Manushka Manosari Nagalingam performed in the play. Sanjeev Kumar, Aditya Paul, Yusuf Khan, and Gagan Saini handled the music. Make-up was handled by Rohit Saini, and assistant direction by Vishal Prasad and Co-direction by Jai Prakash Tiwari.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya said that the Sri Lankan play "Kolamba Hathe Thorana" will be staged on the final day of the 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav (Bharangam). Presented in the Sinhala language of Sri Lanka, the play depicts the fragility of relationships. Its story is divided into three parts. Performed by artists from the Apoorva Theatre Group, this play is a contemporary theatrical presentation that portrays the fragility of human relationships in different ways.
