The 2nd National Moot Court Competition at IFIM School of Law Commences with Enthusiasm and Distinguished Guests

Bengaluru: The much-awaited 2nd National Moot Court Competition at IFIM School of Law commenced on 21st July 2023 with an awe-inspiring inaugural ceremony. The event saw eminent personalities and distinguished guests gracing the occasion and sharing their valuable insights on the significance of moot court competitions in shaping the future of law students.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the warm and cordial welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Sunil George, Principal, IFIM School of Law. In his speech, he extended a heartfelt welcome to all the guests and dignitaries, expressing his gratitude for their presence at the event.

The Chief Guest for the occasion, Hon'ble (Dr.) Justice K. Bhathavatsala Former Judge, of the High Court of Karnataka, Former Chairman, of Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal, Bengaluru, delivered an inspiring address that shed light on the crucial role of moot court competitions in the development of law students' advocacy skills. He emphasized that moot court competitions provide a platform for students to refine their ability to present reasoned arguments in a court of law. Furthermore, he encouraged educational institutions to facilitate interactions between law students and practicing lawyers and judges, allowing the students to gain insights into the practical application of the law as an instrument for social justice.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Atish Chattopadhay, Vice Chancellor of Vijaybhoomi University, captivated the audience with his profound speech on the spiritual and educational aspects of the Indian scriptures. He elaborated on the rich tradition of "tark" - argumentation, which has been an integral part of the Indian education system. Dr. Chattopadhay commended the Law Schools for nurturing this tradition and providing students with a platform to hone their advocacy skills through moot court competitions.

Sanjay Padode, the President of Vijaybhoomi University and Chairman of IFIM Institutions, addressed the gathering and highlighted the fundamental difference between debating and mooting. He aptly described debating as the expression of personal opinions on a topic, while mooting involves presenting arguments to facilitate decision-making. Mr. Padode expressed his hope that students participating in such competitions would become torchbearers of an equitable and reasoned society.

The inaugural ceremony culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Naman Shukla, the faculty coordinator of IFIM National Moot Court Competition. Prof. Shukla expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the entire IFIM School of Law and the Moot Court Committee to all the dignitaries for gracing the occasion. He extended best wishes to all the participants, encouraging them to give their best and make the most of the enriching competition.
