Technology is a powerful tool to ensure the quality, transparency, and long-term impact of development schemes: HIRD Director Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan

Nilokheri, June 20, 2026: The use of technology in the field of rural development is not merely a matter of convenience; rather, it is a powerful medium to ensure the quality, transparency, and long-term impact of schemes. Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), expressed these views while addressing the closing ceremony of a three-day training program focused on the 'Yuktdhara' portal. He stated that through the Yuktdhara portal, development plans—including those for the VB-G RamG scheme—can be formulated based on local needs, geospatial data, and scientific analysis of natural resources.

Program Coordinator Kamaldeep Sangwan welcomed the chief guest, Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, and presented a brief overview of the activities and achievements of the three-day training program.

HIRDC  Director Dr. Chauhan noted that the Yuktdhara portal, developed by the Central Government, assists Gram Panchayats and officials associated with rural development in preparing scientifically grounded development plans. By utilizing satellite imagery, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and various government datasets, the portal plays a crucial role in better planning for activities such as water conservation, groundwater recharge, natural resource management, and the creation of community assets.

He added that the Yuktdhara portal would also prove useful for the effective implementation of the VB-G RamG scheme, as it facilitates the identification of needs and the optimal use of resources at the village level.

During the event, expert Anil Kumar from the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Hyderabad, provided the participants with detailed information on the various modules of the Yuktdhara portal, the use of geospatial data, natural resource mapping, and aspects of scientific planning for development works.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Vedmuni Mishra and Tinku Chopra stated that the training gave them the opportunity to understand the functioning of the Yuktdhara portal and learn how to implement it practically.

A special discussion regarding the VB-G RamG scheme also took place during the program. The participants formulated their suggestions through group discussions and submitted a written report to the HIRD Director Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan.

Appreciating the suggestions presented by the participants, Dr. Chauhan remarked that the experiences of officials and staff working at the grassroots level are crucial to the success of any scheme.
