Team Punjab wins gold at the DAV National Inter School Sports and Games Competition for under 19 Girls Badminton at DAVIET

Jalandhar, December 30, 2022: The Badminton Tournament of the DAV National Inter School Sports and Games Competition for Under 19 girls 2022-23 concluded here at the DAVIET campus. Fourteen teams from DAV institutions across the country participated in the tournament. The Gold Medal was won by Team Punjab, while the Silver Medal was won by the team from Jharkhand. Team Delhi won the Bronze Medal.

Dr Sanjeev Naval, the officiating principal, welcomed the Chief Guest of the Valedictory function Davinder Singh Kang, an international Javelin thrower and his wife Niyamat Kaur.

Davinder Singh Kang interacted with all the players and motivated them to give their best. He expressed happiness that the young generation was keen to adopt sports as a career. His presence motivated the players to push themselves beyond their comfort zones, and his words encouraged them never to give up. He highlighted that when on the field one should not hold back and only go for the win. But at the same time, he emphasized that the games should be played with the proper sportsman spirit. He wished the finalists the best of luck and hoped the best team would win.

Dr Sanjeev Naval, in his address, showed his indebtedness to Dr Manoj Kumar, Vice Chancellor DAV University, for giving the opportunity of organizing the games at DAVIET and guiding at every juncture. He also thanked the chief guest for taking time out of his busy schedule and gracing the occasion to motivate the young players. While highlighting the achievements of the chief guest, Dr Naval stated that he is the most befitting man to be present during the finals as he is a three times Asian Games Champion, 23 times National Champion and was the first Indian to qualify for the Javelin throw world championship 2017. Dr Naval then highlighted that sports play a crucial role in building the overall personality of the students. While competing on the field, students learn to give their best to win and develop team spirit, sportsmanship and, above all, tolerance for each other. He also appreciated the hard work put in by Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, the Sports President of the Institution and his team.

Davinder Singh Kang, Dr Naval, and other dignitaries honoured the winners.
