Teacher’s Day: Punjab’s Teachers Betrayed by AAP Government, Says BJP

Ludhiana, September 5, 2026: On Teacher’s Day, the Bharatiya Janata Party accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of betraying Punjab’s teachers and reducing its “Education Revolution” to a hollow political slogan.
Issuing a press note, BJP District President Sunil Moudgil said that while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann proudly describes himself as the son of a teacher, his government has subjected teachers to humiliation, police action and neglect.
“This is a Black Day for Punjab’s government teachers. Those shaping Punjab’s future are being forced onto the streets to demand their basic rights,” said Sunil Moudgil.
The BJP highlighted the acute shortage of teachers in government schools, with 31,370 teaching posts vacant, besides more than 1,100 sanctioned principal posts and around one-third of DEO posts.
More than 1,700 teaching and non-teaching employees across over 400 aided schools have reportedly remained without salaries for 8 to 19 months. The government has also reduced their grade pay from ₹4,400 to ₹3,200 despite a High Court stay, BJP alleged.
The party accused the government of ignoring SC and BC reservation rights. The notification for 1,013 lecturer posts allegedly provided no reservation for SC and BC candidates, despite the mandated 25% quota, prompting the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission to take suo motu cognisance.
The BJP questioned the failure to complete fresh recruitment of 1,158 Assistant Professors and Librarians, despite the government’s assurance before the Supreme Court that it would complete the process by February 2026.
“Teachers were promised they would never climb water tanks. Today, they are being pushed onto mobile towers instead of receiving justice,” said Moudgil.
The BJP condemned the deployment of teachers for surveys, stubble-burning inspections, health-card work and political data collection, taking them away from classrooms.
“Teachers are not surveyors or political workers. They are the builders of Punjab’s future,”  Moudgil said.
He assured teachers that a BJP government would fill vacant posts, end unnecessary non-academic duties and fully restore the dignity, respect and security they deserve.
