Police Commemoration Day Observed at Police Lines in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, October 21, 2026: In accordance with the decision taken at conference of the Inspector General of Police held in January 1960, 21st October is observed as Police Commemoration day at District Headquarters and other police units throughout the country each year in the memory of policemen killed on duty on October 21, 1959 in an ambush encounter with Chinese at Hot Springs (Ladakh).
The Police Commemoration day was observed on Wednesday in Police Lines, Ludhiana. This was attended by all GOs, SHOs and police force from all units, civil officers and retired police officers of district Ludhiana. 65 bereaved families also attended the Commemoration Day. The parade comprising one G.O., Two NGOs, Four H.Cs and Twenty Constables. The Bugler sound the last post and followed 2 minutes silence. Roop Deep Kaur PPS, Assistant Commissioner Police, PBI/Special Crime, Ludhiana read over the names of Police Martyrs who laid down lives for the sake of Nation during September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026. Arvind Meena, Deputy Commissioner Police, Law & Order, Ludhiana, presiding officer made a brief speech and paid rich tributes to martyrs. Thereafter the bereaved families were honoured and then proceeded to martyrs memorial to lay wreath at the memorial. Then all the officers had interaction with the bereaved families and heard their grievances. The bereaved families were assured necessary help to come problems being faced by them.
The Celebration of Police Commemoration week started on 15th October 2026, and included many events spread over different parts of the city. A Painting competition was organized at DAV Public School Police Lines, Band displays were organized at various public places in the city including malls & markets. The Gazetted officers visited families of martyrs and remembered their contribution to the nation. A mini marathon was organized which witnessed huge participation from the police officials as well as the residents of Ludhiana.
