Dharamshala, July 1, 2025: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced an ambitious plan to transform Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, into the best health institution in Himachal Pradesh within the next one year.

The Chief Minister held an extensive interaction lasting over three and a half hours with department heads and faculty members of the college late Monday evening. He assured the medical community that the government is fully committed to raising the standard of healthcare services in Tanda to national benchmarks.

“We are focused on delivering top-quality health services at Tanda Medical College. New departments will be added, and advanced medical equipment will be installed to meet the needs of patients. We will also fill vacant posts for paramedical staff, nurses, technicians, and other support personnel to ensure seamless delivery of services,” CM Sukhu said.

He further announced plans to increase the number of GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) seats and introduce a B.Sc. Nursing course at the institution. He emphasized the need to eliminate waiting periods for surgeries and diagnostic tests, adding that a comprehensive upgrade of infrastructure and services is already underway.

The Chief Minister disclosed that the state government is investing ₹1,730 crore to modernize all medical colleges across Himachal Pradesh. “Our aim is to make high-quality healthcare accessible within the state so that people no longer need to travel outside for specialized treatments,” he said. He also noted that feedback received during the discussions will guide future health policy decisions.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to the health sector, CM Sukhu highlighted that health has been given top priority in the current state budget.

Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, who was present at the meeting, informed that a robotic surgery unit has been successfully installed at Chamiyana Hospital and a similar unit will soon be introduced at Tanda soon .

Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, R.S. Bali, lauded recent advancements at Tanda, noting that for the first time, open heart surgeries and kidney transplants have been successfully performed there, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state.

Doctors and faculty members expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for his support and vision.
