SUPVA Girls' Hostel Named After Ahilyabai Holkar - Students to Draw Inspiration from the Name of This Great Woman: Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya
Rohtak, May 26, 2026: The girls' hostel of the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak, has been named after Ahilyabai Holkar. Students residing in this hostel will draw inspiration from the name of Ahilyabai Holkar—who fought for the right to education for women. The university administration has had the new name displayed at the main gate of the girls' hostel as well as at the entrance of the hostel building.
Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha stated that it was the idea of the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya to name the girls' hostel after a distinguished personality whose life was dedicated to the cause of education, who upheld high ideals in their life, and whose name could inspire female students to forge ahead in their lives. Consequently, after considering various names, the decision was made to name the hostel after Ahilyabai Holkar, recognizing her immense contribution to women's education. The Registrar further noted that while the hostel was inaugurated on February 4, 2018, by the then Chief Minister Manohar Lal, it had remained unnamed until now.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya highlighted that the renowned Maharani of the Maratha Empire, Ahilyabai Holkar (1725–1795), assumed the charge of her kingdom following the untimely demise of her husband at a young age; she subsequently established Indore as her capital and governed with exceptional competence. During her reign, she set new benchmarks in justice, public welfare, and administrative efficiency. A true exemplar of self-sacrifice, righteousness, and public service, Ahilyabai dedicated her entire life to advocating for women's right to education and empowerment. Her deeds continue to serve as a profound source of inspiration for women, and the girls residing in this hostel will forever draw inspiration from her name.
