Q. Tell us about Super Sisters and your character.

Manini: Super Sisters has an interesting concept. It is a ‘dramedy’ and that is what really pulled me towards it. I love the idea of integrating magic for betterment of the society and that holds a very strong message. Using television as a medium to spread awareness and a social message was something that got me interested in the concept of Sony SAB’s Super Sisters and is quite a USP for me.

Q. What does the role of Mini Mami in Super Sisters have to offer to its audiences and what made you say yes to this role?

Manini: My role as ‘Mini Mami’ is very fascinating for me as I am not at all like her. My choices of roles have always been diverse be it a DGP, forensic expert or a human trafficker. Mini mami as a character, is very outgoing and she speaks with a different accent which I haven’t experimented with before. I had to disable my ‘classy’ conduct which comes very naturally to me. When this character was offered to me, the very thing that charmed me into taking up this role was that I am completely different from Mini Mami and this was a challenge I had to take up.

Q. Are there any similarities with your character as Mami?

Manini: Mini Mami is a character that proves that life is not just Black or White, but there is also a grey part to it. Any mother would want the best for her child and that is what Mini Mami wants for her daughter as well. What she wants is not wrong, but the way she wants it achieved is something even I wouldn’t approve. She is obsessed with her daughter getting married in a rich house and she will stoop down to any level to get that for her. This is what Mini Mami is all about and I am in no way similar to her.

Q. How has your experience of shooting been as of now?

Manini: My shooting experience has been wonderful and I feel I’m very blessed to have people shower me with love whether it was the production team, other artists, the direction team or even the audiences. Shooting has been really hectic but I do love my work and shooting. Comedy is really difficult to portray and the kind of comedy we do is very body expressive. I am familiar with the Optimystix team since a very long time and that makes it all the more remarkable to work for them now in Sony SAB’s Super Sisters.

Q. You’ve been a part of the industry for 17 years. How has your journey been so far?

Manini: I have been in Mumbai since a long time now. I technically started acting immediately after Miss India happened. I am a reluctant person who wanted to pursue IAS and was a complete tomboy. I also wanted to become an archaeologist and then a linguistic professor. Life and destiny definitely wanted me elsewhere. My friends ended up filling the Miss Delhi form on my behalf and I won it as well. I was also a part of a news channel in Delhi. I was just going with the flow as life took me along. Work got me more work and I have never stopped since then. I am very close to Optimystix and Vipul ji and I am very grateful to work with them. Thank you Sony SAB and Super Sisters.
