Sukhu Inaugurates Robotic Surgery Facility at Tanda Medical College
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Friday virtually inaugurated a state-of-the-art robotic surgery facility at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda in Kangra district. The facility, set up at a cost of ₹30 crore, was launched from Chandigarh as the CM’s helicopter could not land in Kangra due to bad weather.

Dharamshala, September 12, 2025: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Friday virtually inaugurated a state-of-the-art robotic surgery facility at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda in Kangra district. The facility, set up at a cost of ₹30 crore, was launched from Chandigarh as the CM’s helicopter could not land in Kangra due to bad weather.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to providing modern, technology-based healthcare services close to people’s homes. He noted that a similar robotic surgery facility has recently been introduced at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty, Chamyana in Shimla.
Sukhu announced that robotic surgery will also be introduced in a phased manner at Hamirpur, Chamba, Nerchowk, and Nahan medical colleges. He further said that a PET scan machine will soon be installed at RPGMC Tanda to save patients the trouble of traveling outside the state for advanced diagnostics. The emergency departments of medical colleges across Himachal will also be strengthened.
The Chief Minister also announced an increase in B.Sc Nursing seats to 60 at Tanda Medical College, deployment of 150–200 paramedical staff in medical colleges, and the creation of 50 posts of Operation Theatre Radiographers. Incentives will also be provided to doctors delivering exceptional services, he added.
