Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women Honored for Active Participation in GST Registration Drive

Ludhiana, February 14, 2025: 
State GST Department, Government of Punjab, today awarded certificates to students
of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town Ludhiana, who actively participated in
the GST Registration Drive conducted by the department from January 10, 2025, to February
10, 2025. The idea to rope in some students of Commerce stream into the process of Survey
of unregistered dealers under GST Act, 2017 was the brainchild of Shri Krishan Kumar, IAS,
Financial Commissioner, Taxation, Government of Punjab, Department of Excise & Taxation.
On his directions, the principal of GNKCW, Model Town, Ludhiana was approached and she
allowed students of B.Com final year for this governmental initiative.

Today, all the students were appreciated for their spirit of volunteerism and extended heartfelt
gratitude for their sincere efforts in facilitating public awareness and compliance with GST
regulations, by Shinee Singh, Assistant Commissioner State Tax, Ludhiana-3 during an
award ceremony held at GNKCW, Model Town, Ludhiana. The college staff and students were
also guided on GST as a subject of Bachelor of Commerce, and educated on the MERA Bill
App, and the importance of demanding invoices. Some queries raised by the students upon
practical aspects of taxation were also answered during the event.

“The Excise and Taxation Department remains committed to providing guidance and
support to students and the general public on GST matters,” stated Sh. Hardeep Singh Ahuja,
State Tax Inspector, who was also present during the event. In the closing ceremony, all the
attendees paid homage to the courageous heroes who lost their lives in Pulwama attack on
14th February, 2019.
